The shamrock is one of the national symbols of Ireland. It has the form of a green clover trefoil. It is an attribute of Saint Patrick, who, according to legend, used a trio of leaves growing from a common stem as a representation of the Holy Trinity during his evangelization of Ireland. According to legend, Saint Patrick used a shamrock to explain the trinity of God to the Irish pagans.
