Cintamani - a pattern of three dots arranged in an equilateral triangle, was a very decorative motif throughout Europe and Asia. The first documented occurrences of the pattern date back to the ancient Etruscans in the 7th century BC. nl Thanks to its survival in ancient Rome, the Frankish Empire and the High Middle Ages, the pattern was preserved in Spain at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries.
